The view of
London from the Royal Observatory at Greenwich
This view is from a hill upon which the Royal Observatory is
sited.
The camera is at a position not far below the statue of General
James Wolfe ("The Conqueror of Quebec" whose victory there in
1759 ended the French presence in Canada).
Directly ahead by the Thames (seen in between two towers) is the
old Royal Naval College.
Across the Thames are the skyscrapers at the Canary Wharf area.
The City of London is to the left of the frame.
To the right of the frame is the distinctive silhouette of the
Millennium Dome (now called "The O2") built to house a major
exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third (this)
millennium.
