Clem's Changkok Manis

I had a sense of achievement recently when the Changkok Manis (Sweetleaf; Sauropus androgynus) plants which I had bought online from Queensland finally matured enough to yield a harvest! They had dawdled along last winter but when spring came followed by this summer, new shoots and leaves grew quickly. Definitely shows that this plant can be successfully cultivated in Sydney. I cooked up the first harvest in a bee hoon fry up.

My Changkok Manis plants before harvest.
Harvesting consists of the cutting off of branches while leaving enough material to regrow.

Only the leaves of the plant are eaten.
The leaves are crushed/torn by hand before cooking.

My first harvest of Changkok Manis fried up in a bee hoon noodle dish (a common way of using the leaves).
